About Anneliese

Anneliese’s mission is to create an environment of empowerment, where clients can have an embodied experience, enhance integration in the body, and live in their wholeness.

Anneliese came to Pilates as a life-long lover of movement.

Her youth was filled with dance, yoga, tai chi and outdoor adventures in hiking, biking and swimming. Physical imbalances that began to cause pain drew her to Pilates for a method to regain strength, flexibility, and prevent future injury.

Anneliese Mordhorst is a Pilates Instructor and Registered Somatic Movement Therapy practitioner passionate about supporting the well-being of her students. Since completing her professional Pilates training in 2008 she has worked with a wide spectrum of people – from teens to senior citizens, new mothers, seasoned athletes, dancers and beginners. Anneliese trained in Pilates Mat work and Apparatus with influence from classical and contemporary styles. In 2013 she became a certified TRX Level 1 Trainer, and incorporates the equipment into all levels of her fitness classes.

Seeking further depth of understanding in movement and embodiment experience, Anneliese discovered the field of somatic movement during her Pilates training. Studies in this area have enriched her own life and personal experiences in healing, and she is honored to bring this knowledge to her clients. In 2017 Anneliese became a Somatic Body Practitioner and Registered Somatic Movement Therapist (RSMT). She has also studied other somatic movement modalities, including Body-Mind Centering™ and Continuum Movement®; and completed training in Zero Balancing I and II.

By incorporating information from other fields and methods, Anneliese’s clients benefit from the growing knowledge and research in movement and fitness. Her mission is to create an environment of empowerment, where clients can have an embodied experience, enhance integration in the body, and live in their wholeness.

Anneliese resides in New Paltz, NY. She is delighted to indulge in her favorite outdoor activities here, including swimming, hiking, snowshoeing and biking. She also is thrilled with the abundance of local food; and loves to dance!

Working with Anneliese

Movement Repatterning and Unwinding and some of the skills and techniques that I use with my clients to support their process of living with vitality and health. The knowledge and experience I have gained since 2008 informs each of my private sessions and group classes to address the needs and goals of each person I work with. Movement, whether very small or very big, is the language of our body and it is the language that I use to communicate to support my clients’ well-being.

A private session could take place on a massage table, a floor mat, a chair, standing — any number and combination of different positions that is comfortable for the client. As with the body, there are many possibilities of what kind and how much movement will occur in a session – from the small movements of the cells to the larger movements of swinging arms and walking. The focus is always on what the body is asking for and the client’s needs.

Kind Words…

Melanie D., teacher and equestrian

Pilates client

I have a completely different body than we began – I have more tone and strength, and see a difference in my posture. I love your approach – its very mindful, and it feels like a partnership. I find it challenging, our sessions are enjoyable and the benefits are immediate.

Pam M, retired teacher

Pilates client

For months I suffered with sciatica, and the task of putting on pants used to be quite difficult. Now I am able to do this with no pain. In addition, my stamina has improved greatly. I would highly recommend Anneliese; her proficiency in her chosen career is obvious, as is her love for it.

Mary C., healer

Somatic Movement client

I am writing to tell you how happy I am that we worked together and for the connection you made for me between what was happening in my neck and my scapula. I am doing a lot movement with my scapula and shoulders; it’s helping me to stay flexible.
